mutiny!

My dog has lost control of the ewes!

Every day for the last 4ish months I have been moving sheep with the same gorgeous miracle dog and almost every day he is a perfect good boy.  The sheep move out and maintain a respectful distance while I fill feeders, mineral, and water and then they are invited back in by the Super Dog and it’s like a beautiful symphony.  Well, the sheep have gotten wise to the fact that he is suchagoodboy and probably isn’t going to murder them and ALL HELL HAS BROKEN LOOSE!

He used to be able to hold them in place for hours with just a look.  They would stand there for hours mesmerized by his big dog energy, I could move fences without closing the barnyard gate!!  Not that we would intentionally move fences without closing the barnyard gate, but there have been situations where I think Chris closed it and he thought I closed it and the sheep take advantage.

Last night those bold bitches totally disregarded him and before I knew it we were surrounded!

Tonight I am going to play some Pat Benatar to get him pumped up before chores, if this doesn’t help we may need to pull out the big guns:  “Eye of the Tiger”

Since there’s no tangent off topic in this post, I want to add that I was reading an extremely thorough informational booklet about sheep pens and handling systems published by the Irish government and I saw this picture of a shepherd in rubberized pants moving sheep with a dog just like the gorgeous miracle dog!  AMAZE!  I wonder if they also have a wayward border collie with a taste for mutton that has to stay in the house during chores until he can think about the consequences of his actions?
