Vlog 015 - Friday, April 26
Hello! I am trying to catch up and get these lambing days edited and posted, but I am finding out really fast that 'content creators' need more technical support really early in the endeavor. First I overloaded my Wordpress with the data from the videos so I moved to YouTube. Then I filled up our cloud storage and needed to upgrade. I'm sure Chris' 17 photos per year are the problem and not the 5 GB of video that I take every day. Today I realized that the substantial memory on my computer was almost full so I need to be better about only using the cloud. Then for some reason our abysmally slow upload speed got throttled down even slower because I'm hogging all of the internet with my depressing lambing videos. Anyway, I'm learning a lot!
I did want to say something about writing the blog. I love writing - I have that thing where I feel like I could write for my living (OK, I do actually write for my living, but it has an extremely narrow audience - mainly FDA inspectors). I don't have any fiction in my head, so not like the great American novel or anything, but you know, a nice non-fiction about food or farming and maybe a memoir or 10? It takes a lot of energy for me to write. The gears of my brain need to be well greased to translate my thoughts - and that's even with the egregious use of run-on sentences! During times like this, or when work is really busy, or when I am not feeling well, I just can't do it. Even my journal becomes incoherent and that is supposed to be a stream of consciousness exercise. The vlogs are much easier during these busy times. I use the energy I have for working, and talking at the same time doesn't take much additional energy. It's like listening to a podcast while I work, except it's my podcast. I also find editing video easier than editing a blog post. Maybe that's because I'm not very good at it and I'm missing some important component? Anyway, that's the story behind the vlogs. I do think it's a better medium for farming content since most people aren't familiar with the topic, and also I think everyone has probably been wondering what I look like at 4 am after going to bed at 1 am. So I'm really doing you a favor.
